ROOD
Do I laugh or do I reprimand?
I was upstairs in the office working, which I do everyday. It is understood that while Andrew naps, I work, and Ethan plays quietly downstairs for about 45mins-1hr. Somedays this is easier than others. Ethan likes attention and loves companionship and he constantly asks me to "play with him." He very rarely embarks on an activity independently, he needs prodding and encouragement. He prefers to do things with others. That in itself is not a bad thing except it often results in a sour attitude when I tell him to "go downstairs and play." This particular day he had just asked me to come downstairs to see something and I said, "no" and I heard this mumbled from the bottom of the steps,
"You are so R-O-O-D."
Apparently Ethan was displeased and was trying to insult me and spelled the word RUDE instead of saying it (spelling it incorrectly - he sounded it out and he knows that the double "o" makes the "oo" sound as in RUDE instead of the U and the E on the end). I called down the steps, "who are you talking to?" He said, "my imaginary friend." I doubt that since his imagination leaves a lot to be desired otherwise we wouldn't be in this daily predicament but I didn't pursue it and just chuckled under my breath.
At least he is trying to spell and sounding out his words!
